Once you opt in, your data exits AWS's data and security boundary — full stop.

What Leaves AWS's Boundary

Anthropic's support article clarifies: after 30 days, data is deleted automatically, except when it's part of a safety investigation or legally required to keep it. That means your prompts, completions, and metadata are inspectable by Anthropic for a month. For any enterprise operating under strict compliance regimes (HIPAA, SOC 2, FedRAMP), this is a dealbreaker unless you control the boundary.

Why This Changes the Bedrock Calculus

AWS Bedrock's selling point has been keeping your data within AWS's perimeter. This policy explicitly breaks that promise for Anthropic's highest-capability models. The justification — detecting multi-turn abuse patterns — is legitimate, but the mechanism (30-day raw data storage on Anthropic's infrastructure) raises the bar on risk acceptance.
