Senior architectural judgment, which traditionally requires years of pairing and code review, is being codified into agents to guide entire engineering teams in parallel.

Endava, a global software contracting firm, has moved beyond using AI as a simple coding assistant. Instead, the company has adopted an "agentic organization" model, where senior expertise is embedded into Codex to assist teams across the full client engagement lifecycle—from initial intake and ideation to final delivery.

Codifying Senior Judgment for Junior Developers

One of the most significant shifts occurs in how senior and junior engineers interact. Mike Krolnik, Endava’s Global SVP of Agentic Architecture, notes that senior architects can now articulate complex requirements and architectural decisions, which Codex then translates into accessible, actionable information for junior staff. This allows junior developers to tackle tasks typically reserved for senior engineers, using Codex as a real-time guide for best practices.

"I can give Codex a point of view, and when they're working, it will help them understand this point of view," Krolnik explains. This mechanism effectively turns mentorship into a scalable resource, where a single senior's perspective can guide multiple less-seasoned teams simultaneously.

Compressing Weeks of Analysis into Hours

Endava has also broken the traditional sequential handoff between analysis, design, and build stages. By treating Codex as a general-purpose desktop agent, the company can package these stages into a single, unified workflow.

A recent engagement with Endava’s legal team demonstrated this compression. To address the challenge of reviewing thousands of contract pages, the team recorded a two-hour deep-dive meeting with legal stakeholders. By feeding the transcript to Codex, they generated a working requirements specification in just two one-hour meetings. What would have traditionally required one to two weeks of back-and-forth revision was completed in a fraction of the time.

This acceleration extends to client-facing sessions, where engineers use Codex to generate live design documents, diagrams, and software architecture visualizations. This capability reduces friction in the feedback loop and allows for immediate technical alignment during client meetings.

Endava's approach suggests a future where the primary value of a senior engineer lies in their ability to codify their decision-making processes into the agents that power the broader organization.
